As a Township Trustee Key Responsibilities:

  • Legislative Duties:
    • Develop and pass township policies, resolutions, and ordinances.
    • Vote on township matters, representing residents’ interests.
  • Financial Management:
    • Review, amend, and approve the annual budget.
    • Certify tax levies.
    • Pay and record township expenses, salaries, and claims.
    • Audit bills for payment.
  • Public Services Oversight:
    • Public Works: Care for roads (mowing, paving, snow removal).
    • Safety: Oversee fire and police protection.
    • Welfare: Provide township assistance, shelter, and utilities for those in need.
    • Recreation & Parks: Establish and manage parks.
    • Zoning: Set rules and regulations for zoning and planning.
    • Waste Disposal: Manage waste removal services.
  • Administration & Records:
    • Act as legal owners of township assets.
    • Keep accurate records of all township business and activities.
    • Provide public notices for meetings.
    • Manage ditches, drains, cemeteries, and weeds.
  • Community Representation:
    • Address public complaints and provide notary services.
    • Commemorate veterans and provide public lighting.
