Biography
Responsible for the administration and operation of a fire department, and for ensuring the safety of the public:
Michael Murray is a veteran fire service professional with 25+ years of experience serving the Harris-Elmore Fire Department. A member since 1997, he brings extensive training and field expertise to the community he proudly protects.
Michael attended Hocking College in Fire Science and holds both Firefighter II certification (1998) and EMT-B certification (1997). He is also a State of Ohio certified Fire Inspector and maintains the IAAI-FIT credential through the International Association of Arson Investigators.
Throughout his career, Michael has remained committed to advancing firefighter safety, strengthening fire prevention practices, and continually developing his knowledge in fire investigation and emergency response. His leadership, professionalism, and dedication to public service make him a trusted and respected member of the department and the community.
Administration
The fire chief is responsible for the administrative, operational, and fiscal aspects of the department. This includes establishing policies and procedures, and approving training plans.
Protection
Responsible for protecting the public and their property from fire and medical emergencies. This includes providing fire prevention and suppression services, and emergency medical services.
Emergency management
Emergency Management Coordinator. This includes developing a public education program on emergency preparedness, and coordinating disaster situations.
Supervision
The fire chief supervises subordinate officers and firefighters, and ensures they have adequate training.
Inspections
Responsible for making inspections of public buildings and premises to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Records
Ensures that complete records are kept of all fires, inspections, and other department information.
Investigations
Investigates the cause of fires, and notifies the authorities if there is suspicion of arson.
